Us West Airlines - Rulers of the Arctic North polar Bears,
The polar bear is the most northerly located land mammal on earth, along with the Arctic fox. Polar bears are white to creamy white all year round which gives them excellent camouflage against the Arctic snow when hunting. 600 pounds; feet tall and up to 1, these bears are huge with adults at 7 to 8 ½. The polar bears (Thalarctos maritimus) live in the Arctic regions of the north near open water where they can find their main source of food which are seals.
They are also excellent swimmers being able to swim at about 3 miles per hour but for considerable distances. A polar bear can outrun a reindeer, at speeds like this. They are incredibly fast being able to run up to 25 miles per hour, despite their large sizes. Polar bears have longer necks and smaller heads making them appear more streamlined, unlike other species of bears.
Even while in the Arctic waters, these protective layers of fur ensure that the polar bear's skin is kept dry most of the time. It simply shakes its body which results in most of the water being thrown right off leaving the bear almost dry, after a polar bear leaves the water. An outer layer of long guard hairs mat together in the water which forms another layer over the inner layer. An inner layer of fur is so compact that it is almost impossible to wet it. Their thick coats of fur traps a deep layer of insulating air around their bodies. Their adaptation to the cold Arctic waters is even more impressive. Leathery pads on the bottoms of their feet to maintain footholds on slippery ice surfaces, polar bears have rough. They spend most of their time on the ice floes hunting seals, during winters.
Baby walruses and even man if they are extremely hungry, birds, polar bears will eat Arctic foxes, besides seals. Particularly if no cover is available, sometimes polar bears have been known to crawl on their bellies until they are close enough to rush their prey. They also stalk their prey utilizing their white camouflage abilities against the mounds of ice. Polar bears hunt seals by waiting for seals to come through holes in the ice to breathe.
The life span of polar bears can be up to 34 years. The polar bear cubs stay with their mothers for 1 to 2 years. Usually 1 to 4 cubs are born during March to April, females tend to breed only every other year and when they do. Males and females stay apart for most of the year except during the summer mating season.
To further help protect these great bears, even for Inuit hunters, there is presently much debate on adjusting annual hunting quotas of polar bears. Polar bears could face extinction in about 100 years, some think that if climate changes continue at its present rate and if worldwide hunting is not adequately controlled. Their populations are thought to be stable for now but some speculate that the species is at risk. 000 polar bears left in the world with 60 percent of them in the Canadian Arctic region, 000 to 25, there are estimates of about 22. Scientists say that climate changes have been reducing the ice floes in the Arctic which has disrupted the polar bear's feeding grounds and migration patterns. Tendons and fur, the Inuit hunt polar bears for their fat.
Polar bears are definitely the rulers of the Arctic north. It's also not surprising that polar bears are some of the most sought after Inuit art sculptures. Manitoba Canada, tourists can see polar bears in the wild through unique tours on specially designed tundra buggies in Churchill. Nunavut even has their license plates cut in the shape of a polar bear. Polar bears have become the most popular symbol of the Arctic north with representations used in everything from soft drink commercials to corporate logos of northern based companies including Canadian North airlines.
South African Travel Packages - Illness - A Family's Response
Each individual has a reaction and the entire family unit has a reaction, or with a long-term or terminal illness, for a few months, whether for a week, when a family member becomes ill.
Illness deeply affects everyone in the family in many ways. How to talk to others in the family, frequently I am asked by family members and by those who are ill.
The entire system is thrown into disequilibrium, if we think about the family being a system for a moment. "Role reorganization" is a healthy process that a family undergoes in response to the illness or death of one of its members.
To bring back balance and harmony to the family system and each individual, that is, roles and responsibilities must now be reassigned to re-establish the equilibrium.
And behavior patterns that will keep the family operating in a stable manner, family expectations, communication patterns, they must re-evaluate and re-establish the rules, and ways of coping, beliefs, using each family's values.
No side or private conversations should occur until each person in the family is talking about the issues and working together to find mutually acceptable solutions. Everyone in the family must be included in all the conversations. It is very useful for each person to talk about how the person's illness is affecting him or her and discuss the idea and necessity of role reorganization for their entire family.
Make a commitment to the survival of the family, with mindfulness and intention, each individual must. Each person's needs must be recognized as being legitimate and important. There is a good chance for success if communications between all the family members are open and honest.
Because they deserve an opportunity to talk about how they have been affected and they have a right and a responsibility to assume some new roles, no matter what their ages, it is vital to include all siblings.
This will help the ill person be reassured that his or her needs can and will be met and that no one will be over-burdened because of him/her. It is also essential to include the person who is ill so he or she can feel reassured that they are still an important family member and can know how the family is adjusting itself to accommodate the illness.
People often welcome discussions and easily consider alternatives to this painful dilemma, when approached with some information and a plan. Often people are in a reacting mode and not thinking very clearly. I encourage the other members to set firm boundaries and communicate directly what they are willing and able to do, in the event one of the family members is unable or unwilling to participate.
And reactions to your illness, feelings, provide the space for everyone to talk to you and each other about their thoughts, if you are the ill person and have the presence of mind and the physical strength. And even neighbors and business associates, co-workers, family members, friends, one person's illness affects everyone in that person's life; please remember.
Be sure to include the ill person. Please create the time and space for everyone to talk about what has happened, if you are a friend or a family member.
Everyone is thinking about what is happening and everyone is already upset; nobody ever wants to 'bring it up' and upset anybody else.
Have the courage to tell the truth in the presence of those who are special to you and face the pain and sadness that is making its home in your heart.
Only YOU can make it happen, remember!

Winter Cruises - Tenerife and Fuerteventura sport on Lanzarote,
So most of the yachts and motor cruisers in the Canaries are there permanently, those conditions preclude many leisure sailors. Any yachtsman sailing to the Canary Islands would need to be reasonably experienced and happy to deal with the weather systems that the Atlantic can throw at them from time to time. But the Canaries are quite remote and a quite a voyage from the popular sailing location in Europe like the South of France and the Balearic islands. There are several harbours and marinas around the coastlines of the different islands but sailing is not the primary water sport activity in the Canary Islands. For a group of islands situated out in the Atlantic Ocean you would expect water to feature highly in the sporting culture of the islands.
All the islands have surfing spots but both Fuerteventura and Lanzarote in particular have thriving surf locations, the stronger Atlantic winds can create wave conditions for surfers of all abilities. Windsurfing and the newer sport of kitesurfing, far more suited to the islands are the sports of surfing.
Gran Canaria is another of the islands to attract top level windsurfing with professional calibre competition using the beaches at Confital in the north of the island. Creativity and style, with judges awarding points for difficulty, the surfers try to complete as many moves as possible within their time period. This type of windsurfing is not a straight race as you may see in the Olympics but sees the competitors performing jumps and tricks to impress the judges who watch from the shore. The wind and waves around this part of the coast make it suitable for freestyle events rather than course racing. With the San Juan beach having been used for the world surfing championships, costa Teguise is another windsurfing location on Lanzarote and another spot that attracts high level competitive events. But that makes it all the more attractive in terms of landscape, there are nothing like the facilities of the bigger resorts here. Not just for surfing but for anyone who enjoys a slightly more dramatic element to their holidays, the beaches there are wide and impressive. But surfers know this spot very well, famura on Lanzarote is a location that is often missed by the many tourists who come to the island and remain in the main resorts.
Again Fuerteventura is an ideal island for such an adventure and every year around 30 kayakers undertake the 300 km tour of the island which takes them 8 days to complete. Stopping off in different locations each evening, there are also tours that take paddlers right around an island. One popular choice is to set out from Corralejo on Fuerteventura to explore the wonderful beaches to the south and to travel across to the small protected island of Lobos. There are numerous locations around islands that can be explored by kayak with several companies offering day voyages. Another sport to use the aquatic characteristics of the islands is sea kayaking.
But these elite athletes revel in the challenge and the fastest competitors will complete the task in less than nine hours, cycling 180km and then running a marathon would be beyond the capabilities of most people, the thought of swimming 3.8km in the sea. Triathletes of all standards will compete but there are always a large number of the world's top professionals on the start line. Even though next year's event is still eight months away it is already fully subscribed. A maximum of 1500 competitors are allowed and the event is now always fully subscribed. The Lanzarote Ironman event takes place in May each year and will celebrate its nineteenth edition in 2010. It was only a matter of time before one of the many competitive events grew its international status, the weather in the Canaries make the islands the perfect location for year round training and competition and with so many athletes coming to Lanzarote during the winter. Triathlon is another sport synonymous with the Canaries and the Lanzarote Ironman event is one of the best known events on the sport's calendar.
The Tenerife Rally and the Granadilla Rally, the Adeje Rally, with several hill climb events and three multi-stage races, on Tenerife a number of rally events take place each year. The Rally de Lanzarote is a newer event that ran over its 1000km route for the third time in 2009 and is part of the Spanish Rallyes Tierra four race series. Teams, largely amateur, on Fuerteventura the La Oliva Car Rally in May attracts around 50. They all have volcanic origins which have provided them will hilly and varied terrain that provides several options for off-road rally events. Car racing is another activity that makes good use of the geography of the Canary Islands.
So for sports participants of all types the Canary Islands always have something to offer, tennis and golf, there are other sports that have found popularity on the islands including swimming.

Here are five reasons to visit Iceland, to get you started. This island country in the North Atlantic Ocean has much more to offer, however. Which is partly true, many imagine Iceland to be a very cold place with frozen landscapes.
Iceland - The Land of Fire and Ice
Iceland has more hot springs than any country on earth while the term geyser itself is derived from Iceland's Great Geysir in Haukadalur, in fact. Hot springs and geysers, along with plenty of lava fields, both active and extinct, you will also find dozens of volcanoes, but at the same time, including the largest in Europe - the Vatnajokull, particularly in the western parts of the country, you will find many glaciers when you visit Iceland, indeed. Which is why it is called the Land of Fire and Ice, iceland is a country of contrasting landscapes.
Vatnajokull and Thingvellir - and prepare to be awed, or drop by the country's national parks - Snaefellsjokul, venture into the Highlands, make sure you head to the Golden Circle, to experience the best of Iceland's natural wonders. Which are all worth exploring, like the Westman Islands, and small islands, mountains, fjords, rivers, it also has many lakes.
